Girls Basketball Defeats Bergenfield

Hilltoppers come back to win 45-39. Kate Martino scores game-high 21 points.

The Bergenfield girls basketball team came to with six victories under their belts. Early in their Saturday afternoon game against the Lady Hilltoppers they were showing that edge with an 11-2 lead over Summit. 

But the Hilltoppers came back with a vengence in the second half, outscoring Bergenfield 24-17,  and finishing their game on top with a 45-39 win.

Solid defense and putting together consecutive possessions that were "good possessions" was the key to winning the game said Summit Coach Brian Erickson.

Kate Martino was the top scorer of the matchup with 21 points, seven of which were scored from the free throw line. "When she gets it going, we're going to be tough to beat," Erickson said about Martino's scoring prowess. Martino also had six steals and three assists.

Kelly Osmulski chipped in 11 points with six boards. Contributions came from all around, including a nice bounce pass from Nicole Johnson that led to a score and a solid game from Amanda Murphy who had seven rebounds.

The win improved the girls basketball record to 3-3 on the season.
