Hilltoppers Set for Union County Tournament

Nick Abbott,132, and A.J. Iarussi, 195, hope to take home 1st place as Summit's team competes in the county tournament.

As Summit's wrestling program continues to make strides, this year's team turns its attention to the Union County Tournament that will be held this Saturday.

While Summit's entire team will be competing, two of its wrestlers have their sights set on first place in the event. Nick Abbott (132) and A.J. Iarussi (195) are two of the county's best wrestlers and both hope to finish with a favorable result in one of the first of hopefully several late season tournaments.

Abbott, the 2011 District X champion, has already taken first place this season in the Rahway Holiday Invitational. Abbott's victory at the districts last year was Summit's first district champion since 1994.

Iarussi took second at the holiday invitational this season and also took second in District X last season. Both wrestlers had strong finishes in the Pioneer Tournament, with Abbott once again taking 1st and Iarussi coming in second.

Each wrestler has a strong chance to qualify for the 2012 state tournament in Atlantic City this season and look to use the county tournament as solid preapartion.

Best of luck to both wrestlers and the entire Hilltopper squad this Saturday!
