Hilltoppers Ready for Spring Campaign

Summit's spring sports teams kick off their seasons in just a few days.

Boys Lacrosse

After falling just short of a third consecutive tournament of champions crown and their 60th consecutive win, the Summit Hilltoppers look to put the past behind them and begin a new journey this season. This year's talented squad will feature senior Nick Tolkowski, junior Austin Carbone, junior Matt Maier and senior Harry McCreary all seeing time at attack. The first line of midfielders includes senior Tom Celmer, senior Ryan Bringewatt and senior David Kalin. Waiting behind them in the midfield are juniors Mike Badgley and Liam Menning along with seniors Thomas Lackey and Jeff Wycoff. The defensive unit will be led by senior goalie Alex Salazar. In front of him will be Bill Hadley, Stefano Stadlinger, Will Weber, junior (long stick) Tyler Carbone and sophomore Matt Saajer. While the group is certainly proud of the accomplishments over the last several years, they know that this season poses its own set of challenges and obstacles. The best way to prepare for that is to focus on each game and compete in each one, only worrying about the next opponent on a very difficult schedule.

First Five: 3/31 12:30 pm @ Westfield, 4/3 4:00 pm @ West Morris, 4/7 2:00 pm vs St. Joe's Prep (PA), 4/10 4:00 pm vs Seton Hall Prep, 4/12 12:00 pm vs Cold Spring Harbor (NY)

This year the Hilltoppers will be lead by first-year head coach Mike Walsh. Walsh will be getting a team who fell just short of the North 2 championship with a 13-8 loss to Chatham. The Hilltoppers return an impressive roster including five seniors that have already committed to a Division 1 program. They are: midfielders Caroline Cordrey (Southern Cal), Kate Martino (UNC), Kelly Osmulski (Umass), defender Kendall Speno (UVA) and attacker Megan Taytas (Lehigh). In addition junior midfielder Stuart Humphrey has committed to Duke. The Hilltoppers will be deep to say the least. The offense should also get an additional boost from senior attacker Kristyn Hartwyk, who spent the last three seasons on the Hilltoppers defense.

In net for Summit will be senior Connie Bowen. The team is looking to defend its county championship and beyond that, looks to survive the gauntlet of conference play. The Hilltoppers conference will consist of 13 teams that all placed in Laxpower's top 30 rankings last season thanks to the new flighted conference structuring. This team should have the talent to compete with any in the state.
