Hispanic Heritage Day Celebrated in Summit

Washington Elementary school holds a musical affair featuring Latino students and their families. The focus this year: Costa Rica.

It was a day of Latino pride at Summit's Washington elementary school on Friday afternoon. About a dozen students and their families marched out onto the school's gymnasium displaying their respective country flags, including the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Mexico, Costa Rica.

The Summit High School percussion group engaged the crowd with music from Brazil, while a summit resident and his Costra Rican dance troupe entertained with colorful dresses and cultural dances.

This was the third year that Washington School has had a mass celebration for Hispanic Heritage month, complete with tables displaying country artificats and symbols from all over Latin America.
