Summit AP Test Scores Best in District History, Schools Chief Praises
The number of students who took the advanced placement tests increased by 14.6 percent.
About 89 percent of Summit High School students who took an advanced placement test during the 2012-13 school year received a grade of 3 or higher on at least one test.
Superintendent Nathan Parker delivered this statistic, which he deemed “the best result in the history of the district,” during the Summit Board of Education’s Wednesday meeting.
Advanced placement tests are graded on a 1-to-5 scale with some colleges giving credit or exempting students from related courses with a grade of 3 or higher.

Additionally, 345 students took an advanced placement test during the school year, an increase of 44 students, or 14.6 percent, over the previous school year.
Parker said that, although some might attribute an increase in enrollment for the additional test takers, that is not the complete story.

He noted that enrollment increased by 5.3 percent, leaving an almost 10 percent difference from the increase in students taking the tests.
Parker said there will be a full presentation on honors and advanced placement results when the board reconvenes in the fall.
