Bestselling Author to Visit Lawton C. Johnson Middle School

All Summit School District students and parents are welcome to attend. No sign up is required.

New York Times best selling author R.J. Palacio will visit Lawton C. Johnson Middle School at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28. for a presentation and book signing.

Palacio's Wonder is the story of 10-year-old August Pullman who wants more than anything to be ordinary. But a series of genetic abnormalities has left him with facial deformities that make it nearly impossible for him to fit in. Wonder, Palacio's first novel, has spent the past 46 weeks atop the New York Times Children's Middle Grade Best Seller's List.

The author, who lives in New York City with her husband and two sons, was inspired to write the book based on a real-life event. The story is told from multiple points of view and delivers a strong anti-bullying message.

Palacio's visit is part of the middle school's "One Book One School" program, in which the entire school community read the book for this school year, Beth Thomas, LCJSMS librarian, explained.

All Summit School District students and parents are welcome to attend this free event. No sign up is required. This program has been funded by the Summit Educational Foundation.
