Nick Abbott Wins District 10 Championship

Victory earns Summit first district championship since 1994.

's wrestling team placed seventh in the 10 team District 10 wrestling tournament held at Millburn High School Friday and Saturday.

But the real story is sophomore Nick Abbott, who was crowned the tournament champion at 130 pounds, Summit's first District champ since 1994. In the finals, Abbott defeated senior Alex Lopez of Columbia 5-2 after winning the semifinal with an 8-2 decision over Robert Marcantonio of Union and the quarter final by pinning Lindley Jean-Philippe of Irvington.

Summit sophomore A.J. Iarussi placed second at 171 pounds, pinning Nick Haboj of Madison in the quarter final and pinning second-seeded senior Danny Freeman of Millburn in the semifinal before being defeated in the finals by top-seeded returning District champion Vic Pozsonyi of Roselle Park.

Summit senior Zach Tolles placed fourth at 152 pounds and Summit freshman Nick Testa placed fourth at 112 pounds.

Abbott and Iarussi move on to this week's Region 3 tournament at Union where the top 3 finishers will qualify for the New Jersey state championship tournament at Atlantic City.
