2011-12 Oak Knoll Winter Sports Forecaster

A look ahead at some of the winter sports teams that will be competing for Oak Knoll this upcoming season.

Varsity Basketball

The Oak Knoll girls basketball team is one that is filled with plenty of potential and a solid group of returning contributors. Seniors Gabrielle Pallicer (G/F), Amanda Fritz (G), juniors Kerri Moran (G), Kelly McAloon (G), Allison Kopacz (F) and sophomore Catherine Bonner (G/F) all will return for this year's Royals squad. The team welcomes new varsity additions in juinors Monica Fritz (G/F), Megan Wynne (F) and freshman Julia Wanfried (C)

The team is led by first year head coach John Bertollo, who beleives that this is a team that has plenty of potential to compete. Coach Bertollo also was able to pick up on the strong team unity of the Royals from the early days of preseason, something that should bode well for this group as they go through the highs and lows of a basketball season.

Track

The Oak Knoll Winter Track team began practicing last week and is looking forward to the upcoming season. There are 14 girls on the team with 12 of them already having varsity winter and/or spring track and field experience. The team has a nice balance of athletes and will compete in all the running events as well as high jump and shot put.

The team will open it's season at the Leon Bailey Liberty Relays at the Jersey City Armory next Thursday, December 15. This will be followed by the New Jersey Catholic Track Conference Relays on December 29 and the Union County Relays on January 7.

Coach Finley and Coach Caamano are pleased with the girls' efforts at practice so far and are anxious to put some relay teams together for the upcoming meets.
