Rutgers University awarded degrees to more than 13,000 graduates, the largest class in Rutgers history.

In front of a crowd of 30,000 people, 13,400 Rutgers University students received their degrees on Sunday at the High Point Solutions Stadium during the 246th Rutgers University Commencement.

According to an article that appeared Sunday on Rutgers Today, 8,989 baccalaureate degrees, 3,239 master’s degrees, 1,230 doctorates and seven specialists of education were awarded on the students.

Celebrants honored outgoing university president Richard McCormick with an honorary Doctor of Laws degrees, which he accepted with tears in his eyes, the article stated.

"Your impact on Rutgers has been deep and significant,’’ Harvey said, detailing the university’s transformation over the last 10 years. “You love Rutgers and you have made it stronger," said Gerald Harvey, vice chairman of the Rutgers Board of Governors said to McCormick.

The keynote speech was given by Greg Brown, chairman and CEO of Motorola Solutions and a 1982 Rutgers alumnus.

Rutgers recently announced that that was matched by an anonymous donor to benefit the university Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience.
