Police Report Attempted After-School Luring Incident

Authorities are investigating claim by 11-year-old boy that a man tried to lure him near Broad Street and North Street.

are reporting the attempted luring of an 11-year-old boy on Friday afternoon, around 3:30p.m. on Dec. 16, near Broad Street and North Street.  has forwarded the report to all parents as well.
 
According to a police report the boy was walking and approached by a man in a black Ford Econoline van with no side windows. The boy told police the man posed as his ride home, and  yelled out to him, “Hey kid, come here — come here. Your dad told me to pick you up,” according to the report.


The alleged suspect is described as a middle-aged black male with salt-and-pepper colored goatee beard and medium to dark-colored skin. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt at the time. The vehicle, which had scratches and dents on the rear passenger side near the rear wheel had a New Jersey license plate, according to police. No further information was available at this time.

Summit Police issued previous warnings about luring incidents in Florham Park and Morristown, which Patch reported on earlier this month. It wasn’t clear if the incidents are related.
