Sarah David is Union County’s Teacher of the Year

The Springfield instructor is the only Union County teacher recognized in state-wide honor.

Springfield parents and students have known that Gaudineer’s Social Studies instructor Sarah David is a great teacher. This month, the state finally caught up with local knowledge.

In recognition for her excellence in the classroom, state officials have named Sarah David Union County’s Teacher of the Year for 2012-13.

A Department of Education press release explained that David was selected by panels representing a cross-section of administrators, teachers, parents and county education association representatives convened by the executive county superintendents of schools.  She submitted both a written application and a 15-minute video to the Department of Education for review by the panel of educators that makes the final New Jersey State Teacher of the Year selection.

Her students, she said, shared in the enthusiasm.

“My students are so excited for me and have been congratulating me all day,” David said. “I also received a very nice letter from Assemblywoman Munoz congratulating me and wishing me luck on the state level.”

David joins New Jersey’s other 20 County Teachers of the Year. In a press statement, New Jersey Dept. of Ed.Commissioner Chris Cerf praised David as a teacher and said that good teachers have the power and skill to change lives and bring out the best in students.

“Most of us know how humbling and awe-inspiring it is to be a student or a colleague of an excellent teacher – these are the individuals who have the power and skill to change lives and bring out the best in us all.  I’d like to congratulate Sarah David for being named Union Teacher of the Year for 2012-13,” Commissioner Cerf said. “I’m proud that through our teacher of the year selection process, which begins at the school and district levels, many more Union teachers are recognized and celebrated for the outstanding jobs they are doing for our children.”
