Summit School District Closed Friday Due to Impending Storm

Non-essential government offices will be closed Friday as well.

Summit public schools will be closed Friday as a winter storm is expected to begin Thursday evening.

After-school activities ended at 5 p.m. Thursday in anticipation of the storm, which is expected to drop between 4 and 8 inches of snow on the area.

Non-essential government offices will be closed Friday as well as Gov. Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency, said Amy Cairns, the City of Summit's communications specialist.

The City's Department of Public Works crews were busy Thursday morning brining streets with a water/salt solution to help delay the sticking of falling snow and facilitate plowing.
