Summit Preschool Applications Available

Kindergarten registration dates set for Summit Schools.

The Summit Public Schools is accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school year Preschool Program. Located at the , 110 Ashwood Ave., and at the , 14 Beekman Terrace, the facilities were inaugurated in September, 2008.

The preschool, which uses the Creative Curriculum for Preschool, is comprised of general education students and students who are eligible for special education.

General education students will be selected for this program by lottery. Preschool classes, which may include both three and four year old children, meet four days per week, Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the morning session and from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. for the afternoon session.

Applicants must be residents of Summit and three years of age by September 30. Applications for the lottery are available on the district website at www.summit.k12.nj.us. During school hours, applications may also be obtained in person at the Primary Centers, the Office of Special Education Services, the Summit Board of Education office, and the main office of any of the elementary schools.

All applications must be returned to the Office of Special Education Services at 14 Beekman Terrace no later than 4 p.m. on Jan. 18. The lottery drawing will be held at the Board of Education conference room at 14 Beekman Terrace on Jan. 19 at 2:30 p.m. Parents of applicants are welcome to attend but need not be present at the drawing. All applicants will be notified of their acceptance status by phone and mail.

Children who are not selected for the program will be placed on a waiting list.

Special education students are included in the Preschool Program as determined by the District Child Study Team. For those students admitted to the program an original birth certificate with raised seal and proofs of residency will be required. A tuition fee of $320 per month will be charged for participation in this program for the 2012- 2013 school year. Students who qualify under the income eligibility guidelines set forth under the Federal Child Nutrition Program may be eligible for a reduced charge.

Kindergarten Registration

Registration for the Summit Public Schools kindergarten for the 2012-2013 school year will take place on Feb. 27, 28, and 29. Kindergarten is open to all Summit children who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2012. Registration applications are available at the Summit Primary Center at Jefferson, 110 Ashwood Ave., the Summit Primary Center at Wilson, 14 Beekman Terr., the Summit Board of Education offices, 14 Beekman Terr., and at all of the Summit elementary schools.

Applications and additional information can also be found on the district website, www.summit.k12.nj.us Appointments must be made to register children at the Primary Center they will attend. If parents do not know what Primary Center their child will attend, they should call Jeannine Dotten at (908) 918-2100 X3102.
