Summit Schools To Host Full Day Kindergarten Town Hall on Jan. 23

Meeting will be held at Jefferson Primary Center from 6:30 - 9 p.m. A panel will educate Summit community on impact of Full Day Kindergarten and answer questions.

The Summit Public Schools has announced a Town Hall meeting on the topic of Full Day Kindergarten.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Jefferson Primary Center, 110 Ashwood Ave. The entire duration of the meeting is reserved to discuss Full Day Kindergarten in Summit.

A panel discussion will take place to educate the Summit community on the impact of Full Day Kindergarten (FDK) on the students and the town. The panel will present the educational, societal and community benefits of a FDK program, the financial and operational costs to Summit, the district’s facilities plan, and where FDK fits into the Board of Education’s priorities and goals. Additionally, early childhood education consultant, Kathie Priestly, will share an overview of FDK from a national perspective.

In addition to Priestly, confirmed panelists are:

  • Dr. Nathan Parker, Superintendent of Schools,
  • Mrs. Celia Colbert, Board of Education member and chair of the Education Committee
  • Mr. Louis Pepe, Business Administrator
  • Mr. Felix Gil, Principal of the Primary Centers

Following a panel discussion, there will be one hour for public questions.
