Summit Swimming Week in Review (12/21-12/31)

"The boys swam a season best power point total (3824 points) versus Seton Hall on Thursday, Dec. 22.  The 3824 power points in the 3rd best total in the history of Summit High School Boys Swimming.  The team enjoyed a 99-71 victory.  The team showed their strength and depth earning first place in all eleven events.  Swimmers of the Meet were Matthew Stern and Luca Guadagno."

-The Hilltoppers got off to a hot start, including several record setting performances at the Big Blue Invitational. For more:

-Swimming Highlights week of 12/12:

"The boys lost  on Dec. 13 to Westfield, 70-100, at the Westfield YMCA.  The Hilltoppers won five of six events, but the Westfield depth was the difference. Swimmers of the Meet were Kevin Fries and Loring Bowen.  

The team traveled to Elizabeth and bunced back with a 106-64 victory. Swimmers of the Meet were Allyn Engle and Mike Peck."

Boys Hockey

Summit 8, Cranford 2: Dominated the Cougars for their second win of the season over their rival led by Riley Flynn's two goals. For more:

Chatham 2, Summit 1: Dropped its first game of the season to rival Chatham. For more:

Summit 11, Dayton 1: Mike Nyitray scored the first two goals of his hat trick just two minutes into the game. Chris Zanelli also recorded a hat trick. Eric Stabler and Will Weber were each credited with three assists.

Wrestling

-Split its opening two contests with a loss to Johnson and a win over Columbia. Heavyweight Colin O'Malley and 106 LBer Brian Peck each won their first varsity match and helped fuel the team to victory.

Girls Basketball

Summit 56, SPF 50: Kelly Osmulski (21 points, 12 in the second half) and Kate Martino (9 points 10 assists) each buried a pair of free throws late in the game to give the Hilltoppers the six point cushion they needed to hold onto the victory. Nicole Johnson scored all 16 of her points in the first half.

Summit 45, Bergenfield 39: PG Kate Martino scored 21 points in the victory over out-of-conference foe Bergenfield

New Providence 46, Summit 35: Could not complete a comeback bid against rival New Providence in the finals of the Hilltopper Holiday Tournament. For more:

Warren Hills 50, Summit 35: Summit was held to only 11 points in the second half of the loss.

Summit 71, Kononia 52: Ba'Shawn Mickens scored 30 points on 23 shots in the win over Kononia Academy

Basketball

OKS 45, Dayton 30: used a 13-2 fourth quarter to ensure the victory over the Bulldogs. Kerri Moran scored 17 points to go along with eight rebounds in the win

-Earned its first win of the season with a 32-12 win over Elizabeth. Kerri Moran scored 10 points.

-Dropped its season opener to Cranford 55-37. The second quarter was the difference as the Royals were outscored 13-3 by the Cougars who never looked back.

Swimming

-The swim team picked up its first win of the season on Thursday against Plainfield.

-Rode a 14-0 first quarter run to victory over Rahway in their season opener.

-The team beat the host Pingry squad for the first time ever in the “Big Blue Invitational" 315-306. Tasha Kewalramani was a first place finisher winning the 100 breastroke in 1:21.93.

Newark Academy 79, Oratory Prep 75 (OT): Kevin Zychowski scored 22 points in the overtime loss to Newark Academy in the first round of the Oratory Classic.

-Matt Billups recorded a double-double (14 pts/10 reb) for Oratory who jumped out to a 2-0 start with a 39-31 win over Bernards.
