Summit Superintendent Updates School Schedule Information

The following information is for Nov. 8 and 9.

Due to power conditions that persist in Summit, Superintendent of Schools Nathan Parker has issued an updated to parents on schedules. Through Friday, elementary schools will continue with a single session and primary centers will be closed to their students. Students in upper grades will continue to attend middle and high school on a full schedule.

However, students are getting a break during these difficult times. "Students are not expected to do homework or to be given assessments that will impact their grades," Parker wrote in his message today.

Unless power is restored to Franklin and Lincoln-Hubbard by next week, Parker plans to place those elementary school students into Jefferson and Washington schools.

The next update on school schedules is planned for Sunday night, Nov. 12.

Here is the letter Parker sent to parents, and staff, also available on the schools' website:

Dear Parents and District Staff,

For Thursday and Friday, November 8-9, 2012, we will follow the same schedule as we did today.

Summit High School and Lawton C Johnson Summit Middle School will be on a normal full day schedule. Students are not expected to do homework or to be given assessments that will impact their grades. The primary centers at both Wilson and Jefferson will be closed to students. The elementary schools will be on single session.

Franklin students and staff will report to the Primary Center at Jefferson. Lincoln-Hubbard students and staff will report to the Washington School.

For Monday, if power is not restored the following is our contingency plan: All schools will be on normal schedule as presently combined – all Franklin students will be at Jefferson School, and all Lincoln Hubbard students will be at Washington.

New for next week, if we have no power – the Primary Centers will re-open with the following change: Wilson and Jefferson Primary Centers' students will all attend Jefferson Primary Center and follow their normal school schedule. Additional information will follow from the Primary Center to the families of their students.

There will be no further messages until Sunday evening, November 12, 2012 unless their is a significant change in power restoration.

Safety continues to be our number one priority. Thank you for continued cooperation and flexibility.

Sincerely,

Nathan Parker

Atentamente,

Nathan Parker
