Swim Coach, Summit High Alumnus Retires on Top [Video]

Dave Pease, who received this year's Hilltopper Appreciation Award, as well as a Coach of the Year award, will retire after three decades at SHS.

There was no magic formula that led to a record-setting season for the swim team. The SumSwim boys nearly captured their second North Jersey Section 1, Public B championship in two years. In his 165-74-1 record as boys swim coach, David Pease would only attribute the success to a lot of hard work and dedication.

"The tougher I got with workouts or more strict I got, the more kids came out for the team,’’ Pease told the Star-Ledger, which named him a Coach of the Year. "If someone didn’t show for practice, one of the first things I did when I got home was call them. Not too many skipped after that. I guess they were thinking, this guy’s on me, I gotta be there. All the kids knew I wanted them to be a part of the team. And the senior boys made it a goal to make the younger guys feel like part of the team."

The and honored Pease with the coveted Hilltopper Appreciation Award.
