UCT Swimming Preview: Summit Hilltoppers

A look at the Hilltoppers boys and girls swim teams as they prepare for Sunday's Union County Championships

Summit Hilltoppers (Boys: 6-2) (Girls: 5-2)

Boys:The Hilltoppers currently sit at No. 9 in the state, joining Union County rivals Scotch Plains-Fanwood and Westfield in the top 10. While the Hilltoppers suffered losses to both of the squads they have had an impressive season that has been full of big wins and some broken school records. During the loss to SPF, the team set three new school records including the 200 Medley Relay (Loring Bowen, Ryan Sebastian, Cameron Simko, Will Beckett), 200 Free Relay (Tim Kosotlansky, Loring Bowen, Ryan Sebastian, Will Beckett) and the 400 Free Relay (Tim Kosotlansky, Kevin Fries, Will Benn, Cameron Simko). The team, as a whole, earned 4214 power points, the largest amount ever earned in the history of Hilltopper swimming. Recently, the boys took home a win in the Iron Hills Invitational finishing comfortably ahead of second place Morristown 293-236.

Girls: The Hilltoppers boast a strong squad that has been tested by some of the state's best teams. Summit has faced the best NJ has to offer (in Westfield) so the stage of the County championships should not be too great for the squad. The biggest win of the season to date came when Summit knocked off long time rival Scotch Plains-Fanwood, who has always had the Hilltoppers number in recent years. For more on the thriller: Alex Riba led the way with two individual victories in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Back. Kristen Fedor in the 500 Free, Jackie Joffe in the 50 Free. The 400 Free Relay sealed the victory for the Hilltoppers much to the delight of the home crowd. That team included Riba, Fedor, Emily Rowe, and Jackie Joffe. Recently, the team took second in the Iron Hills Invitational.
