Final Summit Farmers Market of Season Set for Sunday

Plenty of fresh Thanksgiving fare will be available.

The Summit Farmers Market will pull up stakes for the season Sunday but not before offering visitors some fresh finds just in time for Thanksgiving.

Summit Downtown, Inc. (SDI) Executive Director Marin Mixon said turkeys, pies, and all sorts of “goodies” will be available. For a full list of farmers and purveyors, visit SDI's website.

Still undecided about which type of pie to serve? Brownie Points Bakery will host a pie tasting at 9:30 a.m. The Beechwood Road bake shop offers apple crumb, pear/apple/cranberry, sweet potato, pumpkin, brown butter bourbon pecan, chocolate pecan, and, new this year, apple and quince cobbler. Pie orders can be placed by calling 908-464-2253.

Shoppers will also have a chance to give back ahead of the holiday by donating to Give It Fresh Today (G.I.F.T.), an initiative started last season that provides healthy, locally-grown food to people who might not have access to it otherwise.

"Our customers and farmers/purveyors have donated this season to G.I.F.T. and SHIP (Summit Helping Its People) in Summit and St. Anne’s Soup Kitchen in Newark over 5,000 lbs. as of last week," Mixon said.
