Peter Tierney has been coaching Summit sports for the past 42 years and just three years ago he began coaching the Boys' Varsity Tennis team.

Tierney said he has several long term goals for the team, but right now they are working on putting together a starting team.

Last year, the team placed second in counties but lost in the state sectionals. In 2011, the team took home the win in the state sectionals.

“It was really good for the kids they were so thrilled because when you don’t think you’re going to do something and then you do it, it’s great” Tierney said. “They learned how to compete.”

The Boys' team has been praciting for the 2013 season through the snow, rain and cold to prepare for their first match on April 2.

Tierney said he enjoys coaching and seeing the kids get better, as well as working with his assistant coaches. He also is a coach for the Girls' Varsity Tennis Team.
