Coach Ferrante: Summit Wrestling Team Reaches Milestones in Third Year

In it's first year in a conference and third year as a varsity sport, the team's individuals have a slew of accomplishments.


In his first year as head coach of the Summit Boys Wrestling team Anthony Ferrante led his wrestlers to multiple tournament wins and individual achievements.

Some of the highlights of the season included senior A.J. Iarussi placing sixth at the State Wrestling Tournament in Atlantic City in the 220-pound weight class on March 10 and Nick Abbott reaching 100 wins and being awarded Outstanding Wrestler in the district.

In only it’s third year as a varsity sport, the Summit Wrestling team placed sixth in the Rahway Holiday Tournament, had four wrestlers place in the District tournament and three wrestlers place in the County Tournaments.

“Individually we did an outstanding job,” Ferrante said. “We had some people with big records.”

Nick Abbott: Outstanding Wrestler of the District, 100 Win Milestone

Both Iarussi and Abbott are seniors who have a lengthy list of further accomplishments this season.

The Summit Wrestling team is holding a fundraiser on April 27 at the Knights of Columbus in Springfield, which you can find more about on the team's Facebook page. Also, at the March 21 Board of Education the team and wrestlers will be honored and the members will speak more about where the program is headed.
