Countdown to Kickoff: Summit v. Warren Hills

Hilltoppers will take on Warren Hills at 3:30 p.m.

The Summit Hilltoppers (1-0) will take on the Warren Hills Blue Streaks (0-1) today in the second game of the season.  After last Saturday's game, the Hilltoppers looked poised to repeat much of last year's success.  The competition this week should be their first true test.

Summit coach John Liberato, who has consistently stressed that they take everything "just one game at a time," promised at the end of last week's win that nothing would change in practice.

"We are not going to change anything in practice," Liberato said after Saturday's win. "We're going to fix errors that we made, and get ready for the next game."

It is Summit's basic game plan that poses a threat to other teams, and one that the Streaks understand well.

"We work on fundamentals daily," said Warren Hill head coach Larry Dubiel. "Summit poses a challenge in the spreading of the formation and the use of what is an extra player, because there is no under center QB.  This spreads a defense thin."

While many of the Hilltoppers are young in age, many have significant game playing time owing to last year's enormous success.  The Streaks do not have the same advantage.

"We are a young group of players," said Dubiel, "either by age, or experience."

Summit head coach John Liberato has stated each week since last season that all he asks of each player is that they play to the best of their abilities, and Dubiel has a similar mentality.  It will be a battle of heart out on the field.

The Hilltoppers will host the Streaks at 3:30 p.m. at Tatlock.  Stay tuned to Patch for full game coverage.
