Summit High School Football Seeks Second Straight State Championship

The Hilltoppers take on the Parsippany Hills Vikings at 7 p.m. Friday at Kean University.

When Summit High School's head football coach Kevin Kositobs told Patch in September that fans of the Hilltoppers would like what they were about to see this season, he wasn't kidding.

The team, 11-0, heads to the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 State finals in pursuit of its eighth state playoff title at 7 p.m. Friday at Kean University. The Hilltoppers take on the Parsippany Hills Vikings, 9-2. Last season, the two faced off in the sectional semifinals, with Summit besting Par Hills, 30-13, to advance to the state championship. Summit captured the title, shutting out Palisades Park, 30-0.

Quarterback and senior captain Charlie Terry said the team is "very confident" heading into Friday night's game.

"They're a good team," Terry said. "But we've been practicing for two weeks. We're focused. We're going to be ready."

Kostibos said he's glad the team's seniors can end their final season playing in a championship game and hopes to bring home the trophy again this year.

Terry, who plans to continue to play in college, said the season has been a lot of fun.

"We're pumped to be back at the show," he said.

Kostibos said he hopes the entire community will come out and support the team Friday. During Tuesday evening's Common Council meeting, President Richard Madden wished the Hilltoppers good luck.
