Summit Basketball Coach Appointment Stalls

Another special meeting will be held May 30 with the intent of appointing a new coach.

So far, there have been five school board meetings to discuss the appointment of a high school basketball coach for the upcoming school year, and five times the Summit Board of Education has failed to make a final decision.

According to a report from the Alternative Press, Superintendent Nathan Parker said at a recent board meeting that he would make a recommendation for a replacement for Coach David White, whose contract expired at the end of last year and was not renewed.

A coach could be appointed as early as next week. The Summit Board of Education released an announcement of a special meeting planned for May 30 with the express purpose of appointing a new high school basketball coach.

It's likely formal action will be taken at the meeting.

According to the Press, parents have asked for a decision on the coaching hire at several school board meetings and have also claimed that White has been treated differently than other coaches in the district.

Parker, however, said it's standard practice that coaches for all sports must reapply after their contracts expire.
