Former Hilltoppers Kick for a Cause

Alumni Soccer Game Benefits the Adrienne Reid Memorial Fund

Former Hilltoppers met to laugh, catch up, share fond memories, and play soccer at the Summit High School Men’s and Women’s Alumni Soccer Game Saturday.

There was one other, much greater reason that more than 50 former players showed up at Tatlock Field in Summit on the cool, windy day.

“It’s our second year (of the event), and it is in honor of Adrienne Reid, who lost her battle to cancer last fall. She was the beloved mother of a former player, Alex Reid, who played for us last year," said Summit women’s soccer head coach Christine Bohan.

Adrienne Reid, a career reinsurance executive and avid Summit volunteer, battled cancer for 16 years.

She continues to inspire the Summit community today.

Donations collected at the Men’s and Women’s Alumni Soccer Game benefit a fund founded in Mrs. Reid’s honor, the Adrienne Reid Memorial Fund. Each year, the Adrienne Reid Memorial Fund grants a scholarship to a graduating Summit High School female athlete. Last year, Hilltopper Suzanne Bell was awarded the scholarship.

“Last year we had many alumni play and several current players watching,” said Bohan. “This year we have a great crowd as well. It’s fun; some of the best former players come out, so it’s kind of like the dream team. It’s good to see everyone back together and to honor Mrs. Reid.”

The women’s game began at noon, followed by the men’s game at 1:30. p.m. Whether the former players were still in shape, sorely out of shape, or simply full of Thanksgiving leftovers, everyone had a great time at the event.
