Girls, Boys Track Place 4th in Conference Championship

Senior Mark Jones won golds for the Hilltoppers in the 110-meter hurdles, the high jump and the long jump and added three inches to his Union County record breaking jump with a 23-6 1/4.

The Summit High Track and Field team competed in the Conference Championship at Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights this past weekend.

The girls and boys squads both placed fourth overall in the Mountain Division with several Hilltoppers earning medals and scoring major points for the Summit High team.  Senior, Mark Jones,  performed admirably despite the grueling schedule of competing in four jumping events in a single day.  Jones won golds for the Hilltoppers in the 110 meter hurdles, the high jump and the long jump, added three inches to his Union County record breaking jump with a 23-6 1/4.

Other major contributors for the team were gold medal winners Jim Burns (200 meter), Katie Watson (1,600 meter and 800 meter), and Gilliam McIlroy (3,200 meter). 

Other noteworthy performances included Thomas Chin (1,600 meter), Aleixa Diaz (400 and 110 meter hurdles), Rebecca Cummings (800 meter), Daria Chadwick (high jump and 110 meter hurdles),  Kirsty Gargiulo (1,600 meter) and Jackie Karpman (shot put).  The team's next major competition will be the Union County - Individuals championship this coming weekend in Plainfield.
