Summies Bring Home 32 Medals from World Championships

The Summies' Gold Team finished ranked 7th in the world, its highest showing in a national or world event.

The Summit Summies gymnastics team from The Connection for Women & Families sent 12 gymnasts to the USAIGC World Championships in Palm Springs, Calif., from June 25-July 2.  They competed against over 660 gymnasts from all over the United States, Canada, South Africa, Bermuda, and the United Kingdom—and brought home 32 medals, as well as two team championship banners.

The Summies Gold team started off the week of competition with a strong showing from all athletes.  The team, led by Abby Claus, Alysia Lopez, Noa Efrom and Kiera Little, achieved a seventh place finish among all the competing gold teams, the Summies' best showing ever at a national or world event. In the event finals, Lopez won the silver medal on vault with 8.775 in the 12-13 year old age group.

The Silver Team was led by Caroline Griffith, who won the balance beam world champion title with a season-high 9.5.   Teammate Kiera Little brought home the silver medal on floor (9.325) and the bronze medal on beam with a season-high 9.05.
