Summies Win Several Events at Spring Fling Invitational

Alysia Lopez was the overall meet champion in her age division with a season-high 34.55 in the Gold division.

Due to Spring break, the Summies Gymnastics Team sent a relatively small team of gymnasts to compete in the Spring Fling Invitational at CS Gym in Flanders on Sunday, April 17.  Despite the small group, they came away with several champions.

Gold division

Alysia Lopez was the overall meet champion in her age division with a season-high 34.55.  She also won the bars with an 8.7 and finished second on beam with an 8.8.  Alysia also won the team "Beam Bear" for hitting the best beam routine of the meet, as determined by the coaches.  In the 14 and older age-group, Alison Horne competed for the first time since returning from injury, and she won the floor with an 8.5, beam with an 8.0 and vault with a 7.2 

Silver division

Emily Donohue had a season-high 9.0 on floor and finished with a 33.80 in the all-around.  Team mate Kaitlin Stewart finished close behind with a 33.5, posting her highest score of the meet on floor with an 8.8.

Bronze division

Naomi Schachter won the floor with a season-high 9.2.  She also won second on bars with an 8.75 and finished third in the all-around with a 34.15.

Copper Division

Grace Bauman, 10, had an almost perfect day scoring over 9.0 on all four events, and was once again the meet champion with the team's highest all-around score of 36.80.  She posted 9.25 on vault, a 9.1 on bars, a 9.1 on beam and a 9.25 on floor. 

In the 7 to 9-year-old Copper age group, Summies' Essie Pasternack was the meet champion with a 34.3 all-around.  She also won the floor with a 9.1 and the beam with an 8.6.  Rasika Dronmraju finished second in the all-around with a 34.05.  Her best individual event was floor where she won third place and scored an 8.8.  Summies' Alison Lee finished third in the all-around with a 33.6.  She was also the vault champion with a 9.45.  Marieke DeLanversin finished fourth in the all-around with a 33.4, while also winning second place on vault (9.2) and floor (9.0).  Finally, Jane Wagner won second place on beam with an 8.6 and 4th place on vault with an 8.8 en route to scoring a 33.15 all-around.

The Summies have several more "tune-up" invitational meets before they head into the Championship season in May. 
 
The Summit Summies is a USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Team that is part of the gymnastics program offered by The Connection for Women & Families at 79 Maple Street, Summit.  The team consists of girls, ages 7 through 17 years who practice 2 to 5 days a week in the Connection's state-of-the-art facility.  Anyone interested in instructional, competitive gymnastics or summer gymnastics camp should call 908-273-4242 and ask for Tracy Burkholder, Director of Gymnastics.
