Summit Gymnastics Teams Take First Place at Invitational

The Summit Summies Bronze and Gold Teams won first place awards at the Butterfly Classic Invitational.

The Summit Summies Gymnastics Team from The Connection for Women & Families sent 30 gymnasts to the Butterfly Classic Invitational at CS Gymnastics in Flanders, New Jersey on April 28.

Bronze and Gold teams both won first place team awards. Copper and Silver teams exhibited strong performance winning 2nd and 3rd place team awards respectively.

The Gold team was lead by Abby Claus who took 1st place with an AA score of 35.95 earning high scores of 9.45 on bars and 9.40 on floor. Alysia Lopez took second place with an AA score of 35.90 and high scores of 9.4 on bars and 9.0 on vault. Noa Efron and Emily Donohue both exhibited very strong performance with Noa taking third place in her age group with an AA score of 33.45 and Emily earning a personal best score of 9.0 on floor.

At the Silver level, Kiera Little took 1st place with an AA score of 35.55 earning a personal best score of 9.35 on bars. Cassie Ippolito also excelled at bars with a personal best score of 9.35 and an AA score of 35.15. Kaitlin Stewart won third place in her age group with a high AA score of 34.55.

The Bronze team was led by Devon Degen’s 36.2 AA score. She also won first place on both bars and beam. Other bronze event winners included Kayleigh Driscoll (bars), Grace Bauman (floor), Murphy Degen (vault) and Julie Phipps (floor). Other highlights included personal best scores for Anna Forrest (9.15 beam) and Essie Pasternack (8.7 bars).

The Bronze team also exhibited very strong performances at the Tumble into Spring Invitational on April 21 at ENA Gymnastics in Pompton Plains, NJ. Catherine Singow was the meet champion with a 37.4 AA. Other bronze event winners included Emily Weisman (vault and beam) and Cate Munn (bars). Many Summies team members also posted season-high scores that day, including Grace Barry (9.45 floor).

At the Butterfly Classic, the Copper team was led by meet champion Brianna Carnevale (37.15 AA). She also won bars and floor. Margaret Matthews won her age group with a 35.85 AA. Overall, the copper team won 10 events over 3 age groups and put up many season-high scores, including: Mia Murdock (floor 9.55), Sabrina Ippolito (bars 9.6), Caitlin Fagan (bars 9.3), Claire Purcell (bars 9.2) and Bryn Little (beam 8.5).

The Summies' will be competing at the USAIGC New Jersey State Championships to be held at Rutgers University from May 31 through June 2.

The Summit Summies Team is a member of the United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs, Inc. and is part of the gymnastics program offered by The Connection for Women & Families. The team consists of girls, ages 7 through 17 years who practice 2 to 5 days a week in the Connection's state-of-the-art facility.
