Summit Summies Win Again

Abby Claus was the meet champion, posting a career-high 36.6 all-around score, in the Silver Division.

The Summit Summies Gymnastics Team sent 14 gymnasts to compete in the Garden Gator Classic at Giant Gymnastics in Hackettstown on Sunday.  They finished the invitational season strong, with several overall champions and all gymnasts looking forward to the State Championship to be held later this month.
 
In a very challenging Gold division, Alysia Lopez finished sixth overall with a 32.1 all-around. She also finished in third place on the bars with an 8.5.

In the Silver division, 11-12 year old age group, Abby Claus was the meet champion, posting a career-high 36.6 all-around score.  She also won bars with a 9.15 and beam with a 9.1, while also winning the coveted team "Beam Bear" for hitting the best beam routine of the meet.  Kiera Little finished second overall with a 35.75 all-around while winning the vault with a 9.3 and finishing second on bars with an 8.75. Emily Donohue finished third in the all-around with a 35.15, and won third place on both vault and floor with an 8.8 and 9.2, respectively.  Ginny Collins finished fourth in the all-around with a 35.15, while posting her highest score on floor with a 9.1.  In the 13 & over age group, Noa Efron finished third in the all-around with a 34.65 all-around.  Her best individual event was bars, where she scored a 8.9 and finished third.  The Silver Team won first place in the Team Championship.

In the Bronze division, 7-11 year age group, Margaret Robb won the all-around with a 36.1.  She also won the bars with an 8.5 and both beam and floor with astonishing 9.5s on both events.   In the 12 & over age group, Sarah Illis finished eighth in the all-around with a 33.40.  Her best individual event was fifth place on bars with an 8.6.  The Bronze Team finished second.

In the Copper Division, 7-9 year old age-group, Rasika Dronamraju earned her first meet championship with a season-high 35.35.  She also won the vault with an 8.8.  Mareike DeLanversin finished second in the all-around with a 34.95.  She also won the floor with an 8.8.  Alison Lee finished third in the all-around with a 34.45 and won both bars with a 9.0 and beam with a 9.1. Julia Ippolito finished fourth in the all-around with a 34.10.  Julia's best event was third place on the vault with an 8.65.  Jane Wagner finished sixth in the all-around with a 33.35.  Jane earned third place on beam with a 9.0.  In the 10 year old age group, Grace Bauman finished second in the all-around with a 35.20, and finished second on vault with an 8.9 and bars with a 9.0.  The Copper Team finished second.

The Summies are looking ahead to their State and Regional Championships, which will be held at the end of the month in Wildwood. But first, they are also planning to have a little fun while performing their annual fundraising show–POP Goes Gymnastics–on Friday May 20, Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22 at The Connection.  Tickets are available to the Summies Show on a first come, first served basis, and are sold in person at The Connection's front desk.  Anyone interested in tickets or in finding out more about instructional, competitive gymnastics or summer gymnastics camp should call 908-273-4242 and ask for Tracy Burkholder, Director of Gymnastics.
