Summit Summies Win First Place at Igloo Invitational

The Summies' next meet will take place on Saturday, Feb. 16 and Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Presidential Classic Invitational at Northern Elite Gymnastics in Flanders, NJ.

The Summit Summies Gymnastics Team from The Connection for Women & Families sent 47 gymnasts to the Igloo Invitational at CS Gymnastics in Flanders, NJ on Saturday, Jan. 26.  Copper, Bronze and Silver teams all won first place team awards.  The Platinum and Gold Teams competed unopposed in this meet, and had a great effort.

The Copper team excelled at vault with Brianna Carnevale taking 1st place with an impressive score of 9.6.   Gretchen Probst came in 2nd with a score of 9.4.  Aria Malhotra took 3rd place with a score of 9.3.   Ashley McKoy received 1st place wins on bars (9.0) and floor (8.6).  Mia Murdock also shined on bars (8.85) and floor (9.0), earning 1st place awards on both. Xantal Colls-Xatart had a high score on floor with an 8.9 earning 2nd place in her age group. Other first place Copper awards included Brianna Carnevale on beam (8.8), Claire Purcell on bars (8.4) and Margaret Matthews on floor (8.7). Notable high vault scores and other placement awards were achieved by Dani Bloom (8.87), Caitlin Fagan (8.8), Bryn Little (8.8) and Leah Competiello (8.6).

The Bronze team took first place in the all-around scores across all age groups.  Tess Ostroff had an all-around score of 35.15 in the 12 and up age group with 1st place wins on beam (8.9) and floor (9.2). Devon Degan took first place on vault (9.4) and achieved a 2nd place in the all-around with a score of 35.0.   Ruby Hodges earned a 1st place on beam during her session with an 8.6 and Julie Phipps received 2nd place awards on bars (8.6) and floor (8.5).

In the 10-11 year age group, Sofia Confalonieri earned an all-around score of 34.4 taking 1st place on floor (8.7) and 2nd place on vault (8.9) and beam (8.4).  Margaret Griffith took 2nd place in the all-around with a score of 34.2 earning 1st place on beam (8.8) and 2nd place on floor (8.7).   Cate Munn won 1st place on bars with an 8.7. 

In the 7-9 year age group, Catherine Singow achieved an all-around score of 35.85 with 1st place wins on vault (9.0) and bars (8.95) and 2nd place wins on beam (8.65) and floor (9.25).  Notable high scores and numerous other placement awards were achieved by Emily Weisman on bars (8.7), Kasey Walsh on bars (8.9), Murphy Degan on vault (8.75), Emma Claus on vault (8.8), Alison Lee on vault (8.6), Charlotte Girouard on floor (8.6), Emma Arricale on vault (8.4), Miranda Borra on vault (8.1), Marissa Davide on vault (8.5), Luci Borra on floor (8.3), Sophie Wisniewki on bars (8.5), Isabel Claus on bars (7.8), Mia McCarthy on vault (7.7), Sophia Schachne on floor (8.0) and Dana Efron on floor (8.6).

Caroline Griffith led the Silver team in the 9-12 year age group with a 1st place all-around score of 35.7 taking 1st place wins on vault (9.4) and beam (8.95).  In the 13 and up age group, Ginny Collins won 2nd place on vault (9.325), beam (8.65) and floor (8.8).  Jackie Boland took 1st place on floor with a high score of 9.0 and Alexis Greenblatt came in 3rd place with a score of 8.8.   Naomi Schachter had an impressive score of 8.55 on bars winning 2nd place on that event.   Grace Bauman and Kaylee Driscoll were Silver event specialists on floor in the 9-12 year age group earning an 8.5 and 8.0 respectively with Grace taking 3rd place.

At the Gold level, Alysia Lopez achieved a 1st place all-around score of 33.2 and won 1st place on floor with a score of 9.0.  Emily Donohue took 2nd place in the all-around (32.95) winning 1st place on beam (9.05).  Kaitlin Stewart competed as a Gold event specialist on beam and floor achieving a 3rd place win on floor with a score of 8.4.

At the Platinum level, Abby Claus and Noa Efron both competed as event specialists on beam and floor, taking first and second place respectively.  Abby had high scores of 8.8 (floor) and 7.85 (beam) and Noa was impressive with scores of 8.4 (floor) and 7.0 (beam).

The Summit Summies Team is a member of the United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs, Inc. and is part of the gymnastics program offered by The Connection for Women & Families.  The team consists of girls, ages 7 through 17 years who practice 2 to 5 days a week in the Connection's state-of-the-art facility.  Anyone interested in instructional, competitive gymnastics or summer gymnastics camp should call (908) 273-4242 and ask for Tracy Burkholder, Director of Gymnastics.
