Tasha Kewalramani: Receiving NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Award “Blows My Mind”

The senior holds a 4.548 GPA and is captain of the Summit High School varsity swimming, tennis and softball teams.

Senior Tasha Kewalramani was named this year’s NJSIAA scholar athlete as she holds a 4.548 GPA and is captain of the Summit High School swimming, tennis and softball teams.

Since she was very young, Kewalramani said athletics were ingrained in her.  However, she added that balancing school and athletics each season is tough.

“I love the work,” she said. “I love the challenge.”

In addition to the three sports at Summit High School, Kewalramani has also been a member of the Summit Seals since eighth grade. She added that swimming is her favorite sport because she is the best at it.

She holds the school record for the 100 breast and 200 Medley relay. She also placed 2nd in the county for the 100 breast and 3rd in the county for first singles in Tennis.

Kewalramani said she is excited to move on once she graduates Summit High School this year, but being a captain of all three teams is a good culmination to her high school sports career.

“I love leading a team and motivating younger players,” Kewalramani said. “Staying a family is something I’ve tried to keep alive as a captain.”

As Softball season kicks off, Kewalramani said she is hoping the team will improve their record, which is always a goal, she said.

“Our team is looking a lot better this year,” she said. “We have been improving every year.”

As she will be heading off to college next year, Kewalramani said it’s always hard to give things up. When she started high school she had to give up soccer and basketball and in college she will give up tennis and softball and look to pursue swimming.

Kewalramani was accepted to the University of Michigan’s engineering program, but is still undecided as to where she will attend. Depending on what college she chooses she hopes to still be a part of a swimming team.

“I’ve spent 12 years in this town and school district and I’m excited to move on to bigger and better things,” she said.

She added that receiving the NJSIAA award is a huge accomplishment to close out her senior year.

“Receiving it really just blows my mind,” Kewalramani expressed. “I’m really happy.”
