Track Teams Grab Gold In Hurdles At County Championship

Junior Aleixa Diaz and Senior Mark Jones both placed first in sprint hurdle events.

Summit High junior, Aleixa Diaz and senior, Mark Jones both placed first in the their sprint hurdle events bringing home golds for the Hilltoppers this weekend at the Union County Individuals Track and Field Championship in Plainfield.

Diaz won her first county title in a personal best time of 15.02. Diaz also placed second in the 400 meter hurdles.  Jones also won golds in the high jump and the long jump.  Katie Watson dug deep and squeezed out a first place finish in the 3,200 meter race.  Other solid performances included bronzes won by Isabella Yozzi  in the 1,600 meters and Rebecca Cummings  in the 800 meters. The girls team finished the meet third overall and the boys fifth with additional point scoring performances by Thomas Chin (1,600 and 800 meters), Daria Chadwick (hurdles and high jump), Gillian McIlroy (1,600 meters), Kirsty Gargiulo (3,200 meters), and Kyle Fitts (110 meter hurdles).
