City To Announce Total Raised For Sandy Project Tuesday

Since last Tuesday's "Summit to the Shore" Concert event, community members have contributed to Summit's overall donation for the Sandy Ground Project. The total amount raised will be announced during Tuesday night concert on Summit's Village Green.

Summit has been raising money for the Sandy Ground Project since last Tuesday's “Summit to the Shore” Concert event, and the total amount raised will be announced Tuesday night just before “The Bronx Wanderers” play at the second concert in the city’s "Hot Summer Nights Concert Series."

Donations made during and after shore concert will benefit the NJ Firefighter's Mutual Benevolent Association's Sandy Ground Project, which will build 26 playgrounds in cities ravaged by Sandy in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. Each playground will be dedicated to a victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. The project's goal is to have the playgrounds completed by Dec. 14, 2013, the first anniversary of the shootings that took place in Newtown, Ct.

“We thought it would be nice for Investors Bank to announce it from the stage. We did quite well,” Judith Josephs, Director of Summit Community Programs, told Patch Tuesday afternoon. “We received another check today.”

Before Parrotbeach, a Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band, played at the concert last Tuesday, Investors Bank CEO Kevin Cummings said the bank would donate $5,000 to the Sandy Ground Project if that amount were raised by community members during and after the concert.

“I know Mayor [Dickson] has a personal commitment and Councilman [Robert] Rubino may be there to make the announcement, but Investors Bank will be there,” Josephs told Patch Tuesday afternoon. “We’re going to display the banner tonight [that residents signed last Tuesday] to thank everyone again. We did send an email blast to everyone in the community, thanking them for their support. Tomorrow, we’ll send another email blast indicating the amount raised and the Investors Bank match.”
