Summit's Greenmarket Features 13 NJ Vendors

Summit's Summer Greenmarket will be open every Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. through Sept. 12.

The Summer Greenmarket opened on Beechwood Road in downtown Summit Thursday afternoon, featuring farmers and purveyors from around the state.

Sponsored by Summit Downtown, Inc., the market opened at 3 p.m. with sunny skies for the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Beechwood Road and Springfield Avenue intersection.

SDI Executive Director Marin Mixon says she's pleased with the attendance at the Greenmarket, especially before it even officially opened.

"People were buying produce and product before the market opened so we think it's going really well," Mixon told Patch. "Everyone is happy to see [community members] here in downtown. I think it adds another dimension to the summertime for our downtown merchants as well. We're going to benefit from people in the stores and the stores are going to benefit from people on the street. We have a nice mixture here. Everyone has taken great pains with their tent and the layout of their booth. We're really very, very happy."

The Greenmarket was originally scheduled to open on June 27 but was pushed back due to inclement weather and the 4th of July holiday. This market will be open every Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. on Beechwood Road.

Those who took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony include: Summit Downtown, Inc. Events Chairman Mark Wadamond, Summit Downtown, Inc. Chairman Kevin Smallwood, Mayor Ellen Dickson, Summit Downtown, Inc. Vice Chairman Bob Conway, Summit Downtown, Inc. Marketing Chair Emily Havas, and Summit Downtown, Inc. Trustee Beth Welsh.
