There's Still Time To Donate To Sandy Ground Project

Although the 'Summit to the Shore' Concert is over, community members can still contribute to Summit's donation toward NJ FMBA's Sandy Ground Project this week.

The final amount raised at the “Summit to the Shore” Concert to benefit the Sandy Ground Project hasn't been fully tallied yet, and there’s still time for community members to contribute.

The concert benefitted the NJ Firefighter's Mutual Benevolent Association's Sandy Ground Project, which will build 26 playgrounds in cities ravaged by Sandy in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. Each playground will be dedicated to a victim of the Newtown, Ct. school shootings.

Judith Josephs, Director of Summit Community Programs, said they are still waiting for the amount raised through t-shirt sales, online donations and checks, which should be known by this Monday. Based on donations received in the seven sand pales alone, each representing one of the seven playgrounds to be built in New Jersey, $1,750 has been raised.

“Checks are still coming in and online donations will be counted until the end of the week,” Josephs said.

Just before Parrotbeach, a Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band, took to the stage Tuesday night, Investors Bank CEO Kevin Cummings said the bank, which sponsored the concert along with Overlook Medical Center, will match $5,000 if that amount is raised for the Sandy Ground Project.

“We are thrilled with the turn out at the event, especially with the hot temperatures and the threatening rain,” Josephs told Patch. “The NJ FMBA is very happy with the event and the exposure it gave to their worthy cause, the Sandy Ground Project.”
