Wilson Park Playground Returns with a Celebration Honoring Summit’s Emergency Management Team

The Wilson Park Playground was destroyed during Hurricane Sandy. It has been rebuilt and is an asset to Wilson School and the neighborhood once again. The Summit Department of Community Programs, working with Wilson School Principal Felix Gill and the Wilson School PTO, have planned a celebration for the school. Members of the community who are available are also invited to attend. As an example to the children of good citizenship, the Wilson PTO will dedicate a newly planted tree at the playground site to the Summit Office of Emergency Management and the community volunteers that helped to keep Summit safe.

The lesson is that Summit and it’s residents are Stronger than the Storm. The funding for the playground rehab was from insurance coverage, grants and local capital funding. The equipment was selected with the assistance of members of the Wilson Primary School PTO. It was a competitive search with MRC Playgrounds being selected for price and variety of attractions.

The event is scheduled for Friday, May 30, 2014 at 2:00 PM. The Wilson Park Playground it located in Wilson Park 14 Beekman Terrace right next to the Board of Education Offices and Wilson Primary School. Following the ribbon cutting and tree dedication, there will be a field day for the children and members of the community who attend. The event is scheduled to take place during the school day, and is primarily a school function, but all are welcome. Two trees have been planted at the site to replace several trees also lost in the storm. A plum and a yellow-wood tree will now enhance the playground experience. The plum tree will be dedicated to the Summit OEM team. The event is expected to conclude at 2:45 PM. Special children’s activities are planned with a few surprises as well.

Questions related to the playground or this very special event should be directed to the Department of Community Programs 908-277-2932 or recdept@cityofsummit.org.
