Last Summit Free Market Saturday this Saturday, May 12 ... Don't Miss It!

The Summit Free Market is a City of Summit, student-run initiative that has helped keep over 50 tons of reusable items out of the landfill and incinerator.

This coming Saturday is the last of three Summit Free Market events at the City of Summit Transfer Station on New Providence Road.

These past two weeks, residents from all over the City have brought quality items to share and have found wonderful, new treasures to take home.  Dressers, bicycles, sectional sofas, sports equipment, electronics, dishes and decorative household items fill table upon table in the Public Works garage.  Some items rest on the tables for mere moments before they are whisked away by a new owner. Others last a bit longer, but almost everything finds a new home.

That is the beauty of the Summit Free Market.  Items that you may not have had a place for in your home anymore are able to find a new use in another household. We are reducing waste by reusing quality materials.  Nice work Summit!

The Summit Free Market is organized by a team of Summit High School students and staffed by high school and middle school volunteers. Adult mentors from the City of Summit Environmental Commission, Department of Community Services and Public Works provide guidance and support for the team.

The saying "One man's trash is another man's treasure" certainly comes to life here.  Hope to see you on Saturday between 8 AM and 3 PM.
