September is Summit First Aid Squad Month

Mayor honors Squad volunteers with proclamation.

At the September 5 meeting of Summit Common Council, Mayor Ellen Dickson issued a Proclamation designating September as "Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad Month".  Mayor Dickson recognized the squads 50 years of outstanding service to our community and congratulated its members on the recent celebration of their 50th anniversary.   The Mayor and several members of Common Council were among the many visitors to the Squad “block party” event on July 28.

Mayor Dickson also noted that services have always been offered at no charge to the patient or the City thanks to many years of support from the community and also expressed her gratitude to members who are willing to respond to emergencies at all hours.

Accepting the proclamation on behalf of the First Aid Squad were President John Christmann and Fund Drive Chairman John Staunton.  Mr. Christmann thanked the Mayor, Council and community for their support and encouraged any area resident with an interested to consider becoming a volunteer.

The First Aid Squad launches its annual find drive next week. Squad volunteers answer about 2,000 calls for help every year and since 1962 neither their patients nor the taxpayer has ever received a bill. "With the continued generosity of the Summit community, we hope to keep it that way for many years to come" said Mr. Staunton.

The all volunteer First Aid Squad is always looking for new members to join its ranks. All needed training, uniforms and equipment is provided. For information, please call 908-277-9479, or visit their web site at: summitems.org
