Summit First Aid Squad Juniors Win Scholarship Awards

Four graduating high school students from the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad Junior Program have been awarded the Investors Savings Alice B. Nichols Scholarship Award for 2013.  The awards were given to Junior Members Carl Ganger, Alex Fortune, Michael Gelber, and Miriam Meller.

The scholarships, funded by The Investors Savings Bank Foundation, are awarded each year to graduating members of the Squad’s junior program who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the community.  The long-standing award, named after squad member Alice B. Nichols, is designed to reward committed juniors for their efforts and to encourage volunteering among young people.

The squad’s highly successful Junior Program, which at any given time has about 20 local high school students enrolled, trains participants to serve as active members of the crew and to assist the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) in responding to calls.  Many of the Squad’s juniors go on to pursue successful careers as physicians, nurses, and EMTs.
