Volunteers Have it Covered

July 4th proved to be another busy day for The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad.  In the morning an ambulance crew stood by for the festivities at Memorial Field.  During the afternoon the squad hosted its annual picnic at the squad building, during which three ambulances were dispatched simultaneously to handle 911 emergency calls in town  Finally, during the evening, squad volunteers covered the fireworks with four ambulances, an Emergency Response Vehicle, and two teams of bikers.

The First Aid Squad was not called upon to respond to any emergencies until after the fireworks concluded.

“We have an exceptional group of dedicated volunteers that allow us to cover the Fourth of July in Summit,” said captain John Staunton.  “We prepare in advance for these events,” he added, “and are very happy when our services are not needed.’’
