Summit Man Drowned In Delaware River, Officials Confirm

A body recovered from the Delaware River in Hunterdon County Tuesday was that of a Summit man who has been missing for nearly a week, a New Jersey State Police spokesman confirmed Friday evening.

A tornado cut a swath of damage Monday morning in Berkeley Heights, before tearing through New Providence and Summit, according to the National Weather Service in New York.

From 9:17 a.m. to 9:25 a.m., the EF-0 tornado ripped a path measuring nearly 50 yards wide and spanning 4.8 miles long, with estimated wind speeds at 85 mph, according to the NWS. No injuries were reported.

There was extensive tree damage observed along the tornado path, according to the statement. The greatest damage was sustained at the Sewage Treatment Plant near Snyder Avenue in Berkeley Heights.

A confirmed tornado hacked down trees and ripped out power lines for many on Monday morning in Berkeley Heights, before tearing through New Providence and Summit, and residents were still cleaning up the damages on Tuesday afternoon.

Summit Hosts 66th Fourth of July Celebration

The City of Summit held its 66th annual Fourth of July celebration on Thursday. The daylong event included a flag raising ceremony, a children’s bicycle parade, a Polka Dot Concert for Kids, lots of rides and amusements, craft and food vendors, The Kootz Rock and Roll Band and fireworks to cap the celebration.

Yo Addiction Brings Frosty Treats to Cancer Patients

Mountainside resident Lisa Petrillo, a breast cancer survivor, has made it her mission to help others battling the disease. After undergoing a double mastectomy, Petrillo was fortunate enough to avoid requiring chemotherapy. As she got her strength back, Petrillo became a volunteer for Pathways and began speaking in front of hundreds of doctors, interns and patients at area hospitals to provide insight into what patients need care-wise.
