Cafe Theatre, Shrek Musical, Toy Store Screening This Week

Plus, Summit Common Council will meet Tuesday and the Summer Greenmarket will be open Thursday before the second 'Screen on the Green' film is screened.

The Café Theatre at MONDO Summit’s The Brownstone Theatre will continue this week, featuring “Summer Shorts – A Collection of Short Comedies.” Tickets are $15, and food and beverages will be available from Marigolds Café. The show dates include this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and curtain is 8 p.m. Check back later this week for more details.

The “Hot Summer Nights Concert Series” continues this Tuesday with “The B-Street Band, a Bruce Springsteen Tribute Band. Sponsored by Summit’s Department of Community Programs, the concert begins at 7 p.m. on the Village Green, located across from the Summit Area YMCA. The Summit Department of Community Programs “Screen on the Green” will continue this Thursday on the Village Green. Beginning at 8 p.m. with a Dance Party, “Toy Story” will begin at dusk. Woody and Buzz characters will be there. There will also be a toy parade for the kids to enjoy.

SHREK THE MUSICAL, presented by The Summit Playhouse Kaleidoscope Theatre for Youth, began on Saturday and continues through Aug. 4. As a Pixie Dust Players Production, this show is directed and choreographed by 18-year-old Lindsay Maron. Musical direction is by Brandon Ilaw. Children aged 6 to 24 from Summit and across New Jersey will star in this play. Tickets are available for purchase at www.summitplayhouse.org or www.brownpapertickets.com. Summit’s Summer Greenmarket will be open this Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. on Beechwood Road between Bank Street and Springfield Avenue. This market, which features 13 farmers and purveyors and will be open through Sept. 12, opened last Thursday with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Check summitdowntown.org for a complete list of farmers and purveyors. This market was originally scheduled to open on June 27 but was postponed due to inclement weather.
