Tropical Nights At MONDO, Shrek Musical This Week

Here's a look at what's happening around Summit this week.

The “Hot Summer Nights Concert Series” continues this Tuesday with “Total Soul,” a Motown and R&B band. Sponsored by Summit’s Department of Community Programs, the concert begins at 7 p.m. on the Village Green, located across from the Summit Area YMCA. Summit Downtown, Inc. will meet on Wednesday at 8 a.m. in City Hall, Janet Whitman Room.

The Summit Department of Community Programs “Screen on the Green” will continue this Thursday on the Village Green. Beginning at 8 p.m. with a Dance Party, “Rise of the Guardians” will begin at dusk. Santa will be there and snow will be made for the event.

Summit’s Summer Greenmarket will be open this Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. on Beechwood Road between Bank Street and Springfield Avenue. This market, which features 13 farmers and purveyors and will be open through Sept. 12, opened last Thursday with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

There will be a “Tropical Nights @ MONDO Latin Music & Dancing Fundraising Event” on Saturday from 7:30 to 11 p.m. The event will feature interactive music and dancing at the Brownstone Theater in MONDO, located at 426 Springfield Ave. TEATRO Si is presenting this event in association with the SunRex Events Group and MONDO. Part of the proceeds will benefit the purchase of plantings and materials for a renovation of the adjacent Promenade Park. Tickets are $35 per person, which includes a selection of appetizers, soft beverages and desserts. Tickets can be purchased in advance online. Read more about this fundraising event here.

SHREK THE MUSICAL, presented by The Summit Playhouse Kaleidoscope Theatre for Youth, began on July 20 and continues through Aug. 4. As a Pixie Dust Players Production, this show is directed and choreographed by 18-year-old Lindsay Maron. Musical direction is by Brandon Ilaw. Children aged 6 to 24 from Summit and across New Jersey will star in this play. Tickets are available for purchase at Summit Playhouse or BrownPaperTickets.com
