Time for a Little NYC Culture - Take the Kids!

Visit http://summit.tipsfromtown.com for lots more family outing suggestions.

New York museums are full of shows featuring single works for late 19th century artists. 2 very famous pieces are showing now, sure to be a hit with adults & kids.  The Museum of Modern Art is showing the 1895 pastel version of “The Scream” by Edvard Munch for six months, and now, through February, the Frick has put up Vincent Van Gogh’s “Portrait of a Peasant (Patience Excalier),” on loan from the Norton Simon Museum’s collection in Pasadena, California.

“The Scream”, recently became the priciest painting ever bought at a public auction, going for $119.9 million just this year to Leon Black, the hedge fund financier and collector of drawings.  ”Portrait of a Peasant,” which was painted in 1888 is one of a series of portraits of Provencal “characters” that Van Gogh turned out shortly after moving there.

An introductory video will present the results of new research and a comprehensive technical examination of the Van Gogh painting.
