Hospital Kicks Off Union County Bike Helmet Safety Campaign

'B Hard Headed' promotes use of helmets when riding.

More than half of all teens do not wear their helmet while on wheels.  Children’s Specialized Hospital – Safe Kids Union County, in Mountainside, has launched its "B Hard Headed" campaign to promote public safety and put an end to the thought that “helmets aren’t cool.”

The campaign is intended to promote the use of “hard hats” while riding on wheels for tweens, teens and adults and to help prevent accidental injury.

Children's Specialized Hospital will incorporate this campaign into many community events throughout Union County, by distributing hard hats, reflectors and helmet safety information packets. The “B Hard Headed” campaign will run spring 2013 through fall and will pick up again in spring 2014.

"This campaign highlights prevention, community collaboration and positive action,” said Susan Driscoll, community educator and coordinator of Children's Specialized Hospital Safe Kids Union County. "So many of us are joining together to show that injury prevention can be effective. We are doing this for the residents of Union County.

"Join the campaign and let’s work together to put a lid on one of the main causes of brain injury.”
