Boys LAX: Champs On and Off The Field

Squad helps improve the sidewalk appeal of the Red Cross Headquarters on Springfield Avenue.

The Summit High School boys varsity lacrosse squad teamed up with Peter Finkle of The Environmental Approach and the Summit Garden Club to improve the sidewalk appeal of the Headquarters on Springfield Avenue April 21.

The players became an army fortified with rakes, shovels, and clippers, and squarely defeated all manner of weeds, invasive plants, and scrub trees along a slope facing Springfield Avenue. Bags of weeds and leaves as well as tree limbs and stumps were hauled to the Transfer Station in a pick-up truck donated to the cause.

Coach Jim Davidson wasn’t surprised by the enthusiasm and effort of his squad. He praised them as being a fine group of young men who understand the value of giving back to their community – and do it gladly.

Peter Finkle of The Environmental Approach in Chatham, served as project consultant. His company will donate environmentally safe herbicide, top soil, and mulch for the now barren area. Finkle and the Garden Club will consider enhancing the area with plant material later this year.
