Kiwanis to Host Antiques Appraisal

Fundraiser will be held at Michaelian & Kohlberg from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

If you’ve been questioning the value of your treasured family heirlooms, collected antiques, or flea market finds, you’re in luck! Bring your items to be professionally appraised at the Kiwanis Club’s Antiques Appraisal Event this Thursday, October 15.

The event will be held at Michaelian & Kohlberg from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Consult with John Nye and his team from Dawson & Nye, an auctioneer and appraisal firm located in Morris Plains. Nye’s experience includes 15 years of work at Sotheby’s before establishing his own business.

Admission to Thursday’s exclusive appraisal event is free, and appraisals cost $10 per item. Proceeds go toward Summit High School’s Project Graduation, a drug and alcohol-free event for students on their graduation night. Funding for the project is a collective effort of student-organized fundraisers in addition to donations and grants supplied by local businesses and residents.

The Summit Kiwanis Club, sponsor of the Antiques Appraisal Event, is a small but dynamic group of people dedicated to serving the children of the local community. Additional proceeds raised by the fundraiser will go toward Key Club activities and other Kiwanis Projects.

“Currently, our club is focusing on high school students through our sponsorship of Project Graduation, Key Club, and other high school activities,” said Kiwanis Club President Terri Tauber. “As we expand, we intend to broaden that reach to younger children.”

Accordin to Tauber, this event is a first for the club.

“We are a relatively new and small club and we are looking for a fundraiser that works. If it’s successful, we may look to make it an annual event,” said Tauber.

Note that wine, stamps, and coins will not be accepted for appraisal, and weapons and other dangerous items are prohibited and will not be admitted to the event. Be aware that all appraisals are “verbal and non-binding.”
