Relay For Life of Berkeley Heights, Mountainside, New Providence, and Summit is pulling out all the stops for this year’s event, which will take place on at from 3 p.m. on June 2 to 7 a.m. on June 3.
Each year gets bigger and better, and this year is no exception. While during every Relay, participants enjoy food they bring and some they order in or purchase from other teams, this year event planners have a new feature: a food court!
Before and during the event, vendors from around the community will be on-site selling, and in some cases giving, food and beverages to attendees. Percentages of the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
This year's event co-chair and Relay team member, Melba Smalley shared, "We're so excited to add this feature to the event this year."
Her team, fittingly called Cookin' Up a Cure, thought the food court was a great idea.
"The event has so many great things going on and over 2500 people come out. Many simply want to see what Relay For Life is all about. We thought, why not give them a whole night out and help fight a disease that has touched all of us in one way or another." She and her fellow teammates are currently working with local restaurants who would like to participate in the event's first ever food court.
Since its inception in 2002, the Relay For Life of Berkeley Heights has brought together family, friends, community members, and co workers to raise awareness and funds for American Cancer Society research, education, advocacy, and service.
The Relay For Life of Berkeley Heights, Mountainside, New Providence, and Summit was #1 last year in the Eastern Division (ALL of New York and New Jersey) for overall fundraising, raising $365,000. The event had 114 teams and more than 1,200 participants. The goal for this year is to grow even bigger and raise even more!!
