Summit Farmers Market Yields More Than 100 lbs of Donated Produce

The local version of the G.I.F.T (Give It Fresh Today) program collects healthy farmed foods for those in need.

Even Summit Mayor Ellen Dickson had to share the news: "I heard 100 lbs. of produce was received, thanks to all who donated," she .

The effort behind Summit's G.I.F.T program, which takes its name from a similar program started in Hawaii, is owner Bob Conway. He was thrilled at the haul. "We collected over 110 pounds of food the first day!" he said in an email to Patch.

Those donations were collected by S.H.I.P. (Summit Helping Its People) to be used locally for the breakfast program at  and weekend dinners at .
